No, this isn’t a photo of our new studio. It’s the counter at Good Dog Naturally, where Sisters Pet Pics was born. Sam was rescued by the folks who own the store, and he lived there for a few weeks while he was getting fattened up and healthy before going to his forever home. Sam [...] I know there is a deep down, bottomless sweetness to Golden Retrievers. Not necessarily a gentle sweetness, but a joie de vivre that just won’t quit. Case in point, Bella. Just a joyous youngster who loves to swim, and eat water while swimming – check out Land Shark and Retriever Joy. She’s also quite a [...] In the studio, it’s usually my intent to create at least one perfect formal portrait. Of course I have never achieved perfection, but that is what I try to execute every time. I can find oh so many things I would like to have improved in this image if I were a painter…alas, I am [...] When all else fails, it’s time to give in. Everyone’s moving and squirming, and no one wants to look in the same direction. What do you do? Well, you just turn it over. Let’s do some hard work. I know you’re out there, but I’m not sure exactly what your interests are. Some are more into photography than pets/dogs/cats, etc. Some have a fierce love of dogs only, and some…well, I don’t know. Lest you think I think it’s my way or the highway, I want to rip [...] Just as Tess faced what she regards as an important decision, photographers must make decisions and compromises on a moment-to-moment basis. In low-light situations should we give up on depth of field or shutter speed? Can we tolerate the noise if we use high ISOs? Even making the decision to walk into a creek, or [...] As promised, here’s another photo of Bella having river fun. I have been so taken with the water as subject; perhaps I am the only person who likes this. Although Bella looks a little vicious (Can you say a little vicious? Isn’t that like, a little murderous?), there’s not a mean bone in her body. [...] I spent my Fourth of July (pronounced Joo’ lah) doing what I like best, photographing animals at play. When asked to visit the Little Tchefuncte River, in southern Louisiana, to photograph Golden Retrievers at play, I jumped at the chance. As soon as I saw the site I said aloud, “This is Retriever heaven”. Go ahead. Click the image twice and split ‘em. Look at her left eye and count the hair around it. Okay, I’m not doing that either, but my point is sometimes when you look at what was intended to be a head shot might be even more interesting closer. What, you say? You think I [...] |
