You want to photograph your pets inside the house, but the only light you have besides ambient is an in-camera flash, and you get the dreaded red or green eyes on your sweet little person. To the naked eye they don’t look anything like [...] So, you think pet photography means the soft cuddly kind of subjects; well, I regard all the creatures around me as charges. I’m sworn to protect them…therefore, to me they’re pets, especially when they’re in my yard. It’s not much of a leap for me to think of them as pets then. Skills are meant to be used. Photography is not a medium which is learned and forgotten; it must be practiced, like any other endeavor. Use it or lose it, as it were. This is an example of what happens when you single-mindedly grab focus of a moving subject and release at the appropriate instant. You’ve already met this stiff legged little fella in the Painted Colt post. I thought I’d post him with his mom today to celebrate what is being called a huge victory in the fight to save the wild mustang from near extinction. One of the most difficult photographic skills to acquire is panning. Panning is the act of locking on your moving subject and moving your camera with the subject. The idea is to show the subject in tack-sharp focus and the background as a motion blur. This is accomplished by using slow shutter speeds, like 1/60 [...] Don’t you just want to wrap your arms around this little guy and kiss him all over? He’s just as charming a guy as he can be.
