The Lazy Photographer’s Way To Great Shots

Some may take exception to this shot because Hansel is a noble protector who shouldn’t be looking cute.  I am not one of those.  I think that’s just why this shot is good.  First of all, his name is Hansel!  Come on.  He’s a sweetie right from the get-go.  He has a Dachshund’s name!  I’m [...]

The Social Season Is Approaching

Well here’s Buzz.  No, not the buzz, but Buzz, a raucous LSU fan.  Okay, so he doesn’t really know what LSU is, but his mom does, and that’s all that matters.  He just wants to be close to her regardless of who’s on TV!
Here we are at the beginning of football season, coming up to [...]

Giving In To The Moment

When all else fails, it’s time to give in.  Everyone’s moving and squirming, and no one wants to look in the same direction.  What do you do?  Well, you just turn it over.
The child in this image was doing all he could to hold it together, and I thought he did a great job of [...]

Our Great Nation? I Fear Not.

My first dog as an away-from-the-nest young adult must have been of Spaniel descent.  She looked very much like Pedro, pictured here.  Loyal and true with an almost knightly honor, Moya was my friend, my confidant, who joined me willingly on roads less traveled in the late ’60s.
I haven’t met many Cavs, but I have [...]

Stylistic Options

I’m aware that the trend in pet photography is more journalistic in style.  When dogs are free to roam and play at their homes, or in the parks, they exude joy.  Those are moments that family members wish to document and save, for sure.  In the studio it may be a little more difficult to [...]

Nothing Ordinary

This is Christian the cat. I’m going to call him a brown tabby, as the light coloring hints at a gold or brown. According to Is Color Linked To Temperament?, Christian’s personality is “quiet, courteous, docile and faithful, but at the same time hardy and courageous”. His human parents think he is very special, as he found them at a very fortuitous time when they were missing another cat. The way he looked at the camera in this sweet way just made me want to go over and pet his extra soft coat…and he loved it.

Perfect Murphy

How ’bout this handsome guy.  He’s everything anyone could ask for in a companion animal.  His mom and dad take him everywhere society allows, and he behaves himself in an exemplary fashion.  The reason I call this image perfect is because he has arranged himself in a perfect sit.  Notice the 45° angle to the [...]

Greyhounds Abound!

I guess I haven’t completed my musings about Greyhounds.  How could I?  Look at the beauty I’m faced with!  Meet Dreamer.  Her understated beauty sneaks up on you until you can’t look away.
You will notice that my sharing of techniques, tips and tricks with regard to pet photography will merge with my love of dogs, [...]

Let’s Talk About Frida Kahlo

This is our Frida Kahlo.  We call her our  talented and courageous Mexican dog.  Here’s a little Frida story – you should tell us a story about your photo too.  By the way, don’t forget to watermark your images before posting.
Our studio is located in Good Dog Naturally, a local pet supply store.  Once a [...]
