Yesterday the discussion was about how to hide certain flaws, such as a tumor or feeding tube, and how important or not important it is. If the subject is defined by this perceived flaw, then I generally leave it, unless of course the human wants it removed or hidden. Some prefer to have eyes like Maggie’s hidden or touched up. In this case, the human in her life didn’t want it hidden, so we just accentuate something else, such as her glorious coat.
My feeling about it is, if the animals don’t notice a perceived flaw themselves, I hardly notice. Maggie sure didn’t notice. Things to make mention of in this shot: the sweet angle (45°) and an open mouth, which I generally work to close, but if there isn’t a 12 inch tongue hanging below their neck, it looks to me like they’re talking. I’m a sucker for a talking dog.
