Skills are meant to be used. Photography is not a medium which is learned and forgotten; it must be practiced, like any other endeavor. Use it or lose it, as it were. This is an example of what happens when you single-mindedly grab focus of a moving subject and release at the appropriate instant.
The humans in the shot are training this young dog to herd. There is a trainer and an owner working her dog. I grabbed the dog about 20 yards to my right. As he ran I followed him and got off few shots before he passed the humans, but I kept shooting as he crossed on the far side of them. Check out Born To Be A Herding Dog, Hand Tinted Black & White and Focus Problems posts to see more about focusing.
If you are interested in other skills, use the Search function in the right side bar to search the site for what you want. Not there? You have only to ask and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. I’ll even put up a photo to illustrate a point to inspire you.
