Just when you thought it was safe for your four pound dog or puppy to hang out in your yard… Meet Minnie, the drop dead gorgeous Border Collie mix. The soft sweetness of her eyes almost breaks your heart. This week we talked about DOF as a compositional tool, one that helps your eye to a starting and stopping place in the image. Today is a continuation of that discussion. I’m aware that the trend in pet photography is more journalistic in style. When dogs are free to roam and play at their homes, or in the parks, they exude joy. Those are moments that family members wish to document and save, for sure. In the studio it may be a little more difficult to [...] We’ve discussed depth of field (DOF) before, but it’s part of the Photographic Triangle, which is imperative to understand if you want to improve your pet photography. Alas, he already has a new best friend. Sisters Pet Pics has been busy this summer with location shoots; last weekend we went out to Folsom to photograph horses in the morning and hobby farm animals in the afternoon. I’ll [...] Does Doodlebug look like an every-day sweet someone? Uh uh. Nope. When she arrived with her dad in tow, she had quite a story to tell. There was so much coming from her, I feared I would forget all the details. Alas, I have. Suffice it to say that her story involved rescuing a village [...] Consider studio photography, namely portraiture. What are the components, or building blocks? Look at the image of Tango, Dancer and Toshi. We could have added another 3 of these lovelies, and the building blocks of a capture would remain the same. Background, lighting and foreground, or subject. Before you can attend to the Photographic Triangle, [...] |
