I believe I have the best job in the world. I love photography and am always challenged and engaged by my wonderful and beautiful subjects. Over the course of the last four years we have met so, so many loving human people as well as their four and two legged feathered and furry friends. We think of them as any service person would… as a hairdresser, a physician, a teacher would… The animals become part of us. I may forget a name, but I rarely forget an animal.
Today is not one of those days I revel in. It is a very sad day when the full realization that the touch of fur on our cheeks and the smell of coat fresh from the outdoors will not be ours forever. The sound of short panting breaths that some of us know as dog laughter will no longer be in the air around us. One of the loves of our lives has moved on. We cry for the days we cannot have back. When the loss is new, we live it like a fresh wound and hold our hearts carefully as we would what was left of a missing appendage.
This pain is true. It is as true as any human loss, for in the world I live in, every life is unique and as special as any other and the loss of one life is the shared loss of a world. Brodie’s mom is one of our valued customers and friend. The days ahead for her will be difficult and we pray for her to find solace in her own goodness and the well wishes of her friends.
Brodie is the other half of the duo of obedience and agility trained Shetland Sheepdogs I mentioned in the Spring Skye post. This summer Brodie would have been eight years old. Too soon to go so far. Brodie was special to all who watched him work his magic through agility and obedience trials. He will be missed…forever…
